August 29, 2012 in Basic crochet

Twitter: twitter.com Facebook: www.facebook.com Pinterest: pinterest.com I demonstrate how to crochet the foundation single crochet stitch/technique. This technique creates a foundation chain and a row of single crochet stitches in one. Usually used as a border and to give a sturdier edge to a ‘fragile” /thinner yarn.

Using Bernat’s Fab Faux Yarn, you can create a scarf in about 30 – 45 minutes. The scarf will measure about 7 feet long and will only use 2 balls of yarn. I used a 15MM or “N” Crochet Hook to achieve this. The matching pattern is on my website at thecrochetcrowd.com

Crochet Lesson 10 – Circles

August 11, 2012 in Basic crochet

Crocheting Circles is actually pretty simple once you understand how each revolution works. You go in ratios. So with each row you get further out from the middle, there is more single stitches between the 2 stitches into the same hole. You have to grow it out progressively because if you rush it, it will cause it to buckle or create major ruffles.

crochet hat designs for kids and babies

August 10, 2012 in Basic crochet

Lady Stewart Crochet (facebook.com/ladystewartcrochet) This is a quick talk about tips, techniques and considerations when making hats for little ‘uns. I have not gone into detail about stitch names because I am assuming you already know your stitches and I don’t have to worry about differences in terminology between UK and USA. Many other tutorials are available on youtube for stitches and their variations, so please refer to them if you are not familiar with ‘postwork’ or working ’round the post’. Have a go at making baby hats first – which will be quick to complete and will instantly show you if the stitch is working aesthetically, as well as practically. Making kiddy hats is immensely satisfying as they are fast and cute. Perfect combo for budding crafters. Use a dolly for modelling initially, but there is nothing better than a real model to see if your creation is cute AND comfortable. Kids aren’t tactful at giving feedback, you’ll know instantly if it’s a success or not! Good luck, get on designing!

How to Single Crochet: For Beginners

August 8, 2012 in Basic crochet

This is a simple video on how to single crochet. Single crochet is the easiest of all crochets and is a great place for beginners to start. When learning to crochet you should start by making just small squares and, once you have the hang of it, work up to a small project like scarf.
